During his junior year of college, where he studied business and systems, Rollin Ford interned with Walmart in the distribution and transportation department. At the end of that internship, he got the opportunity to share his thoughts on the experience with Sam Walton. Sam said, “You know, Rollin, if you end up graduating, give me a call. We may have a job for you.” Ford did that, though he ended up working not in ISD, but in logistics under Lee Scott. He spent 25 years there, ultimately ending up running the department, before returning to his roots and finishing his career as CIO. For Ford, though, it wasn’t about the work, it was about being part of the Walmart family.
