In 1971, Peggy Hamilton joined Store #34 in Nevada, Missouri, working in ladieswear. Sam was a frequent visitor to the store, where Hamilton showed great promise as a young merchant. After a few years and a few well-deserved promotions, she was asked to join the merchandising team at the Walmart Home Office. Hamilton would spend 17 years working as a buyer there. For her, it wasn’t just a job but a company she felt like she owned, which was exactly what Sam wanted– passionate associates taking pride in their ability to make a difference. Today, Hamilton is still plying her buying skills at The Walmart Museum.
