Lee Scott joined Walmart in 1979, working in the transportation department. From there, he rose through the ranks of logistics and transportation, becoming executive vice president of logistics in 1993. In 1995, he switched departments and became executive vice president of merchandising. He was promoted to president and CEO of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. in 2000. When he retired in 2009, Rob Walton said of Scott, "During his 30 years of service, Lee’s extraordinary contributions helped us make significant strides in areas such as sustainability, reputation, diversity, and inclusion of all people. My dad would have been proud of Lee’s accomplishments in leading Walmart."
